Pieterpad 2007, 2010
In September 2007 we finally made a start with the pieterpad. We chose to do it south to north so that the sun would be in a backs and we wanted to do the “Dutch mountains” first and move onto the flatter parts later.
The Pieterpad:
The pieterpad is probably the most well know long distance walk in The Netherlands. The path generally runs parallel with the Dutch/German border. The Pieterpad is almost 500km long and runs from Pieterburen in the Province of Groningen (North Holland) to St. Pietersburg in Limburg (most southern province of Holland).
In just over a week we walked from Maastricht to Groesbeek, a distance of little under 200km. Sometime in the future we hope to do the rest of the path. Along the route there are several accommodation options if you want to travel light and not camp. Hotels, B+B and also www.vriendenopdefiets.nl .
Some parts of the route they call the Pieterbeek (pieter brook) instead of the Pieterpad, you can see why:)
In a couple of places nice locals have set up a Pieterpad table(Pieterpadbankje) with free coffee, spread the love!!
Sometimes the cows talk back to you:), ermm…..they call me the cow whisperer….errmm
Pieterpad 2010
This summer we finally got round to walking another chunk of the Pieterpad, Groesbeek to Coevorden a distance of around 200km.
It was 10 days of beautiful weather and beautiful walks mainly through the woods. Next year (or whenever) we only have to walk another 6 days to complete the path.
Luckily I had my own mule with me
