For the first time in years I wasn’t stressed at the airport, got there nice and early checked in and done 3 hours before departure, the joys of a booked ticket instead of standby.
An idiot Dutchman allowed my bag(which included all my elctronics) to fall 2m out of the overhead luggage bin onto the floor. Laptop/kindle 1 gravity 0.
The flight arrived too late to take the shuttlebus to town so when I got approached by a dodgy looking taxi driving who offered me a lift for €20. I went for it, no risk no fun…He didn’t get too lost and after a few phone calls we made it.
My warmshowers hosts Hanlie and Wim we’re nice enough to wait up and allow a complete stranger in their house at midnight. They’ve looked after me well this weekend, day 1 Braai 1 (South African BBQ), saturday we went to some life music somewhere with friends of theirs. Needless to say I had a great night and had a sore head this morning.
Yesterday I did a 75km daytrip around Table mountain. I had a great afternoon cycling Chapmans peak Drive, its beautiful and my crappy photos dont do it justice. I had no idea how unfit I’ve become in recent months, its just as well I have plenty of time to sort that out:).
Today was a hiking trip up Table mountain with Glenn, well ok not the Table mountain, we did Devils peak instead because it has almost no tourists, no cable car and no restaurant at the top, but equally stunning views. He’d heard my interview with www.travellingtwo.com and got in touch with me to do some hiking, I love the internet, it makes life so much better.
About Cape Town?
(start insult locals mode) appart from the beautiful locationsand t he fact its not too full with huge buildings, its just the same as most big cities(insult mode off).
Cape Town has a nice city center, with lots of shops, bars, cafe’s and all the other things you’d expect from a cosmopolitan city. But if I’d wanted that I could of stayed in europe, this isn’t the africa I came for so I’ll be leaving town tomorrow to start the journey east inland.
It still just feels like being on holliday, I’m curious to know when the hammer will fall and it will start feeling like the huge trip that it is…….
I’ve heard from other cyclists that getting a good internet connection here is tricky, So I guess its time to go social network cold turkey for a few weeks:)
